WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 2003

The Department of Health and Human Services (IHS) has decided it doesn't need to consolidate its public affairs functions, The Washington Post reports.

In passing the recent omnibus appropriations act, Congress said it wouldn't approve the "One-HHS" initiative, which includes changes that affect the Indian Health Service (IHS), without further study. Sources told the paper the language was a payback for Secretary Tommy Thompson, whom senators accused of withholding information about stem cell research.
