Bush and Senate jockey over Estrada nomination
Facebook Twitter Email
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 2003

President Bush called on the Senate to amend its rules in order to force votes on his judicial nominees as a filibuster continued over Miguel Estrada, a Hispanic lawyer picked for the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Majority Leader Sen. Bill First (R-Tenn.) offered to have Estrada go before the Senate Judiciary Committee again but Democrats say they also want to see memoranda he drafted while working on Supreme Court cases in the Department of Justice.

The D.C. Circuit hears a number of Indian law related cases. In February 2001, a three-judge panel of the court unanimously affirmed the right of Indian beneficiaries to a full accounting of their funds.
