FRIDAY, MARCH 7, 2003

The Tachi Yokut Tribe of California was in court on Thursday to explain why it should not be forced to comply with the state's campaign finance laws.

According to the state Fair Political Practices Commission, the tribe failed to report $525,000 in contributions over a four-year period. The tribe says it has not waived its sovereignty to fall under the state's jurisdiction.
