If the state of Oklahoma enters into gaming compacts with tribes, the state should get a cut of the money, The Daily Oklahoman says in an editorial.

The paper says Indians "drive on state roads, are protected by state law enforcement officers and have access to public schools and other state services" just "like all Oklahomans." The paper doesn't explicitly say that Indians pay taxes too.

"Upping the ante so Oklahoma can receive a portion of these profits doesn't guarantee a win," the paper says. "Instead, such compacts might bring the state closer to the tribal-sponsored, full-scale, casino-style gambling that is proliferating with little oversight and huge profits for a handful of people nationwide."
