BIA sued over landfill on Calif. reservation

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2003 A California court is suing the Bureau of Indian Affairs for approving a landfill on the Cortina Rancheria. The Cortina Band of Wintun Indians wants to lease 443 acres of its 640-acre reservation for the project. At maximum capacity, the landfill will accept 1,500 tons of garbage a day. Colusa County contends the landfill is environmentally unsound. Get the Story:
