Distribution of Navajo tax fund questioned

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2003 The Navajo Nation is promising to share sales tax revenue with local chapter governments but the distribution formula still has some confused. If a chapter government is certified as self-governing, it will receive all of revenue generated from the 3-cent tax. So far, $7.7 million has been collected. The tribe plans to return 40 percent to the 108 non-certified chapters. But of this amount, 50 percent is shared among all chapters while the other half is distributed to each chapter based on population. Get the Story:
