A state court in Massachusetts heard oral arguments this week to determine whether the Gay Head Wampanoag Tribe should be subject to local zoning regulations.

The town of Aquinnah argues that the tribe can be sued to comply with the laws. The tribe, based on the island of Martha's Vineyard, says that its sovereign immunity can't be waived.

The dispute stems from a pier and a shed the tribe built on land located within town limits.
