FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2003 The Navajo Nation's top health official wants to end the so-called Bennett Freeze that limits development on tribal land in Arizona. The freeze, named after a former commissioner for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, was imposed as part of a land dispute between the Navajo Nation and the Hopi Tribe. It affects Navajo families who live on land belonging to the Hopi Tribe. Cora Phillips, who was just named head of the Navajo Division of Health, said she wants to put together a task force to address health issues and problems that have arisen as a result of the policy.
