Republicans finalize omnibus bill in private

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2003 Republicans in Congress finalized a $397.4 billion bill to fund the federal agencies for 2003. According to a summary released by the House Appropriations Committee and news accounts, the Department of Interior and related agencies funding was cut back from $19.5 billion to $19.1 billion. The Bureau of Indian Affairs was funded at $1.9 billion, a $68 million increase from 2002, and the Indian Health Service was funded at $2.9 billion, an increase of $109 million. Copies of the bill and its report were not made public yesterday. House aides said the bill was filed late last night and couldn't comment on funding for the Office of Special Trustee nor other provisions affecting the Interior. Get the Story:
