Griles pledges to overturn mining regulations

Deputy Interior Secretary J. Steven Griles spoke at the National Western Mining Conference in Denver, Colorado, on Monday.

Griles told the crowd that the Bush administration is eliminating "burdensome" mining regulations, The Denver Rocky Mountain News reported. He said the Clinton administration made changes that were "unnecessary or legally questionable."

Griles is a former lobbyist for the mining industry.
