A federal judge in California turned down an attempt to stop the Chemehuevi Tribe from evicting non-tribal members from its reservation.

The tribe has evicted residents who have failed to pay rent on tribal land on Lake Havasu. The homeowners say the tribe's reservation has never been formally recognized.

U.S. District Court Judge Virginia A. Phillips, of the Central District Court of California, denied the motion for preliminary injunction on January 31.
