One of the Department of Justice attorneys sanctioned by a federal judge on Wednesday for his handling of the trust fund case is a personal friend of President Bush, The Washington Post reports.

Robert D. McCallum is head of the civil division at DOJ. He has been nominated by Bush to the third highest-ranking post in the department. The Senate Judiciary Committee has not held a hearing yet.

McCallum has also been referred to a disciplinary panel by U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth, who is overseeing the Cobell case.
