Rich in revenue tribes preach restraint

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2003 Leaders of two Connecticut tribes, whose casinos have made them among the most successful in the world, are urging restraint in spending, The New London Day reports. The restraint applies both to tribal projects and to per capita payments payments to tribal members. The Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation are streamlining their enterprises and trying to reduce debt. Tribal leaders also voted recently not to increase per capita payments. Mohegan tribal members receive up to $28,000 a year while Mashantucket tribal members are reported to receive upwards of six figures. Get the Story:
