An Alaska Native health organization contributed more than $44 million to the southeast Alaska economy in 2001, according to a new study.

The Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium serves the health care needs of Alaska Natives. Its 2001 budget was $60 million and it employed nearly 1,000 that year.

The McDowell Group studied the amount of the consortium's payroll, goods and services to arrive at the $44 million figure.
