NCAI's Hall addresses N.D. Legislature

FRIDAY, JANUARY 10, 2003 Tex Hall, president of the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) and chairman of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation, made an address to the North Dakota Legislature on Thursday. Hall's theme was "Leave No Tribe Behind," a reference for the need to develop economic opportunities for American Indians. He said the state and tribes can work together to create jobs and explore other partnerships, including compacts for the collection of motor fuel and tobacco taxes. Hall also called for the replacement of Columbus Day with Native American Day and for lawmakers to oppose the "Fighting Sioux" nickname of the University of North Dakota. Get the Story:
