Wis. tribes helped pay for governor's bash

THURSDAY, JANUARY 9, 2003 American Indians donated at least $45,000 to help pay for the inaugural bash of new Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle. The Associated Press said four tribal governments and Indian organizations donated money for the event. The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe gave at least $25,000 while the Ho-Chunk Nation gave $10,000. The Oneida Nation and the United Tribes of Wisconsin donated at least $5,000. Doyle will be renegotiating gaming compacts with tribes in the upcoming months. Get the Story:
