TUESDAY, JANUARY 7, 2003

The Bureau of Land Management in Nevada is moving to seize more livestock belonging to two Western Shoshone sisters who refuse to pay grazing fees on land they say belongs to their tribe.

The Associated Press reported that an aerial survey was conducted of the Dann sisters ranch. Previously, that has led to confiscation of cattle, horses and other animals.

The Western Shoshone Nation signed a treaty in 1863 covering 23 million acres of land. The government claims the tribe lost the land through white settlement.
