Makah to challenge whale hunt ruling

MONDAY, DECEMBER 23, 2002 The Makah Nation of Washington plans to ask the full 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to rehear its whaling rights case, The Peninsula Daily News reported. Barring a rehearing, the tribe said it would appeal to the Supreme Court to protect its treaty rights. Makah leaders, and Indian law experts, say last week's decision to strike down federal approval of the hunt could affect other tribes. Get the Story:
