FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2002

Advisers to President Bush are proposing to require Internet service providers to help the federal government monitor the Internet, The New York Times reports.

The President's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board is finalizing a report that will make the recommendation. It is proposed as a means of protecting the Internet from hacking attempts, viruses and worms but some in the information technology industry say it will lead to monitoring of individual users.
