The executive director of the Lincoln Indian Center in Nebraska has resigned.

Kay Crawford Bursheim left amid an investigation into claims that she misrepresented her educational background. When she was hired a year ago in April, she said she received a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University, the chairman of the center's board of directors said.

Bursheim declined to speak about her academic record with The Lincoln Journal Star. She told the paper that she is attending to her husband, who is undergoing surgery for heart problems.
