The Bush administration on Monday recognized the new leadership of the Kickapoo Tribe of Texas that was voted in by traditional means.

The decision by Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb paves the way for the tribe to re-open its casino. The San Antonio Express-News reported that federal agents are investigating, a probe the new leaders support.

The tribal members on October 28 kicked out former chairman Raul Garza and his associates, citing rampant corruption and misuse of funds.
