Research being published in today's issue of Science look at the origins of man's best friend.

According to one of three studies, dogs indigenous to the Americas showed close genetic resemblance to those in Eurasia. But today's dogs are different, learning researches to suggest that the native dogs were wiped out when European dogs were brought to the shores.

For the study, the University of California at Los Angeles tested DNA from modern dogs and the remains of dogs found at sites in Mexico, Bolivia and Peru.
