MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2002 If elected president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, activist and actor Russell Means says he will work to unseat Senator Tom Daschle (D-South Dakota). Means cites Daschle's opposition to the return of the Black Hills to the Sioux Nation and Daschle's support of a 150,000-acre land transfer to the state of South Dakota. "I will do everything I can do to see that he is defeated when he comes up for re-election in two years," Means told The Baltimore Sun. Means also says he will encourage Indians to vote Republican in the next election. "If we vote with the Republicans, we'll make a statement to South Dakota and the national Republican and Democratic parties that we are a force to be reckoned with, so when we go to Washington, the doors of power will be open just a bit wider than they are now," he tells the paper.
