The chairman of a billion-dollar Alaska Native regional corporation is being considered as a replacement for Senator Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska).

Oliver Leavitt, of Arctic Slope Regional Corp., is one of 25 people on Murkowski's list. Murkowski, who is leaving the Senate because he was elected governor of Alaska, gets to pick his own replacement under a new state law.

ASRC, which is owned by 8,000 Inupiat Eskimos, supports drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
