FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2002 The Sioux Falls Argus Leader in an editorial today praises the settlement of a voter rights lawsuit filed by Sioux tribal members in South Dakota. "There shouldn't have been any need for a suit," the paper says, because the state should have been submitting its election laws to the Department of Justice for review. "Apparently, that wasn't the case," the paper writes. The settlement affects changes in election law affecting Native voters on the Pine Ridge Reservation and the Rosebud Sioux Reservation.
