Republicans elect new leadership

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2002 The Republican party elected its new Congressional leadership on Wednesday but there were few major surprises. Trent Lott of Mississippi was re-elected the Senate Majority Leader. Dennis Hastert was re-elected as Speaker of the House. The changes were accompanied by the official announcement of Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) as the new chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, where he will take up an energy policy bill. He is retiring as chairman of the Budget Committee.
