Senator Pete Domenici (R-New Mexico) will be leaving his longtime post as chairman of the powerful Senate Budget Committee but not without some grumbling, The Washington Post reports.

Domenici was reported to have been encouraged to stay because his replacement Sen. Don Nickles (R-Okla.) is too conservative and will push through more tax cuts. His staff is set to be replaced as he joins the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, taking over from Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.).
