The Tohono O'odham Nation of Arizona has a memorial to tribal members killed while fighting to protect the United States.

The memorial lists 18 killed in World War II, two in Korea and three in Vietnam. The tribe has its own Veterans Affairs Office, which is run by a Vietnam veteran.

For Stanley F. Harris III, a member of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut, military service is a family tradition. His father was in World War II, he served during the Korean War and his son during the Persian Gulf War.
