Chickasaw's Herrington nears blastoff

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 2002

John Herrington, a member of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma, will become the first tribal member in space when the Space Shuttle Endeavour is launched this coming Monday.

The launch takes place at the the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. A traditional ceremony, featuring a drum group, will occur on Sunday.

Herrington, 44, will a flag of the Chickasaw Nation into space.
