WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2002

The Crow Tribe of Montana holds an election for chairman this Saturday.

The election is necessary because Clifford Bird in Ground resigned as chairman after he was indicted on federal charges. Vice chairman, Vincent Goes Ahead Jr., who is currently acting chairman, is seeking to take the position.

Carl Venne is the challenger. He doesn't support recent changes to the tribe's constitution but Goes Ahead does.

Bird in Ground has pleaded guilty to one count of bribery for using tribal money to buy cars for family and friends.
