School districts serving Wyoming's Indian students are lagging behind and risk sanctions, according to the state.

But the superintendents are challenging their placement on the No Child Left Behind list. They say it is unfair to base student achievement on a single test, the Wyoming Comprehensive Assessment Systems (WyCAS).

In related Wyoming education news, a member of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe has been appointed by Gov. Jim Geringer to the University of Wyoming board of trustees. James Trosper is the director of the Indian Child Welfare legal department.
