Michael Thomas, newly elected chairman of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut, is promising new economic development projects, more tribal housing and better relations with local governments.

Thomas said the tribe is looking into two hotel projects. He also wants to develop a more open relationship with town leaders who have historically opposed the tribe's efforts.

In an editorial, The Norwich Bulletin congratulates Thomas for his victory. "That Michael Thomas has pledged to guide that expansion while keeping the lines of communications open with neighboring communities is welcome news," the paper writes.
