MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2002 The federal government settled a malpractice lawsuit filed against the Indian Health Service for $3.5 million. At age 4, Eric Dan went to the the Northern Navajo Medical Center in Shiprock, New Mexico, for an appendectomy. He developed brain damage and is quadriplegic.
