WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2002

Crow elder and historian Howard Boggess received the highest honor from the Montana Historical Society Board of Trustees, The Lincoln Journal Star reported.

Boggess is known for his knowledge of Crow tradition. His work on two recent high-profile issues -- drilling in Weatherman Draw and protection of Pompeys Pillar -- also drew praise.

Boggess helped lead the fight against the drilling proposal. After a year of negotiations, Anschutz Exploration Co. decided to drop the project.
