The candidates for a county commission seat in New Mexico say cooperation with the Navajo Nation can improve road development.

Wallace Charley is the Democratic incumbent for San Juan County district 1. He says there are too many federal, state, local and tribal regulations that prevent successful road repair.

Jonathan Tso is the Republican candidate. He said the county, state and tribe could create a joint roads department.

Both Charley and Tso hold posts in the Navajo Nation government.
