Man who quit over 'gay' ad back in race

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2002

Senator Max Baucus (D-Montana) has an opponent again. Republican Mike Taylor, who quit after complaining he was portrayed as a gay hairdresser, re-entered the senate race on Tuesday.

Taylor's popularity was falling when the state Democratic Party, not Baucus, launched the ad in question. It featured an 80s-era Taylor, complete with leisure suit and gold chains, giving a man a facial.

Taylor owned a beauty supply company and once had a television show where he gave beauty tips. His name is still on the ballot because it was never removed after his October 10 announcement to withdraw.
