Tribes partner on Lewis & Clark project

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2002 Three Washington tribes are working on a Lewis and Clark project that will include monuments designed by the well-known creator of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. Maya Lin will design at least four monuments for the Confluence Project. Located in tribal areas, they will focus on Native people and their land, not the explorers. The effort brings together the Umatilla Nation, the Nez Perce Tribe and the Chinook Nation with the city of Vancouver, Washington. The project needs to raise a total of $15 million. Get the Story:
