THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2002 Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura signed an executive order on Wednesday to reaffirm the state's relationship with Indian nations. The order recognizes the 11 tribes as sovereign governments. It also calls on state agencies to engage in consultation on matters that affect Indian Country. The order is a first for the state, according to Ventura and tribal leaders. Tribes had criticized Ventura for some of his earlier views. Ventura said he learned a lot about tribes while in office.
