Jim Doyle, the Democratic candidate for governor of Wisconsin, said he is willing to reopen talks to buy land near an Ojibwe reservation.

BHP Billiton wants to open a zinc and copper mine on the land. The company, however, hopes to sell it once state permits are obtained.

The mine site is next to the Mole Lake Ojibwe Reservation. Area tribes and environmentalists oppose the development.

A buyout could cost up to $94 million.
