Alaska Native whaling quota approved

The International Whaling Commission on Monday unanimously approved an Alaska Native whaling quota.

The Bush administration sought to obtain a five-year extension for Inupiat Eskimo hunters. An earlier vote had been thwarted by Japan.

The quota also applies to indigenous hunters in Siberia, Russia.
