S.D. candidates promise Indian outreach

MONDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2002 The two men vying to replace South Dakota Governor Bill Janklow (R) promise to improve Indian Country relations if elected. Mike Rounds, a former state senator, is the Republican candidate. Jim Abbott, president of the University of South Dakota, is the Democrat. Rounds said he would invite every tribal leader to dinner. Abbott promises the same but also said he would visit each reservation. There are nine federally-recognized tribes in the state. Get the Story:
