MONDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2002 "Our Native youths deserve better. The message they need to hear over and over again is that our people are healing and that their lives are going to be OK. We're in the midst of a young generation poised to make a difference, a generation that will get past the pain and live, thrive and prosper. But today's leaders must pave the way for them. In order to address crucial issues such as tribal sovereignty and economic development, basic building blocks must be in place for progress to occur. If we are going to change the way we see ourselves or how others see us, nascent tribal governments need to be strengthened. And those governments need to be accountable to the people through a free flow of communication, a free press. . ." Get the Story:
