The Department of Defense on Wednesday released more details about secret biological weapons tests performed during the Cold War.

The Pentagon previously disclosed tests on military personnel at sea. But it now admits to land tests in Alaska, California, Maryland Florida, Utah and Canada.

Under "Project SHAD," the Pentagon is trying to contact 5,000 veterans. The DOD claims no civilians were exposed to deadly chemicals and nerve agents.

Tests in Alaska were conducted at Fort Greely, traditional Athabaskan territory. The site is now being used for national missile defense.
