THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10, 2002 The FBI misused its police powers in connection with a secret counterterrorism court that was headed by U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth. A memo obtained by a member of Congress showed the FBI acted improperly in at least 10 incidents during the first quarter of 2000. The FBI made videotapes, recorded telephone calls and intercepted e-mails without permission of the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Act court. Lamberth sits on the court and was presiding judge up until May 2001. In a stinging May 17 ruling, he blasted the Department of Justice and the FBI for false misrepresentations. Get the Story:
