House panel approves forest initiative

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2002 The House Resources Committee on Tuesday approved a bill to curb environmental and judicial review of logging projects on federal forest land. The legislation was initially endorsed by some Democrats on the panel. But they dropped out yesterday after complaints from their environmental allies. Four Democrats joined with 20 Republicans on the committee to pass the bill. A Senate version has stalled along party lines. Get the Story:
