Editorial: Start with an accounting

Individual Indian and tribal beneficiaries deserve an "honest accounting" of their trust funds, The Lincoln Journal Star says in an editorial.

"That will provide the basis for further reform that allows tribes and tribal citizens more control over their own destinies," the paper writes.

The paper ran a three-day series on the Indian trust fund last week. It offers some guidance on how to solve the debacle.

"As officials once again try to craft a remedy for the problem, they should listen to the long-ignored voices of the tribes, as fractious and divergent as those voices may be," the paper writes.
