Ten Mich. groups seek recognition

MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2002 Ten groups in Michigan are petitioning for federal recognition, according to The Lansing State Journal. Not all might want to open casinos but the threat is there, opponents say. Currently, there are 16 casinos and three more in the works. Lawsuits have been filed to stop two recent land-into-trust decisions. There are 11 federally recognized tribes in the state. Get the Story:
