A National Park Service superintendent said he will retire than be transferred to a park where the Cherokee Tribe of North Carolina wants to swap land.

David A. Mihalic, who currently works at Yellowstone National Park, alleges the Bush administration is reversing policy in order to allow the swap to go through. The tribe will give 218 acres to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

In exchange, the tribe will receive 168 acres within the park to build schools. Mihalic and conservationists oppose the swap.

Mihalic also opposes a second project at the park to build a road.
