Conn. 'tribe' claims sovereign status

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2002 A Connecticut group claiming to be a sovereign tribe is challenging building fines and citations issued by a local city. The Confederation of the Mohegan-Pequot American Indian Tribe is not state or federally recognized. Its leader, Moigu Standing Bear, claims a state supreme court decision acknowledged the tribe.
