A 28-year-old Alaska Native woman from the village of Chickaloon has been chosen as one of 30 young visionaries by the magazine Utne Reader.

Shawna Larson was recognized for her work on the recent treaty to limit the use of persistent organic pollutants (POPs). She garnered the support of Alaska Native tribal governments and pushed the Bush administration to consult with tribes.

Larson is the youngest member of the Chickaloon Traditional Village Council.

Also chosen by the magazine was Clayton Thomas-Muller, a 24-year-old Cree activist from Canada who currently lives in California. He has worked on a number of environmental and indigenous issues.
